EU Sanctions Entities for Crypto-Funded Disinformation and Election Interference
The European Union has imposed restrictive measures on nine individuals and six entities accused of using cryptocurrencies to evade sanctions while spreading pro-Russia disinformation. Among those targeted is Australian influencer Simeon Boikov, known as "AussieCossack," for allegedly coordinating Kremlin-aligned propaganda campaigns.
Sanctioned parties reportedly exploited crypto networks to circumvent financial restrictions and receive donations. The EU cited election interference, COVID-19 misinformation, and fabricated content about Ukraine as key violations. Notably, Boikov stands accused of commissioning a falsified video about U.S. voter fraud ahead of the 2024 presidential election.
